Looking to build its subscriber base as a means to meet its fiscal goals, WWE has unveiled an English-langauge version of its over-the-top service to 170 nations.
The WWE Network, in addition to the U.S., is now available in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico, Spain, and the Nordics, among other countries and territories. Moreover, the WWE said the service will also become accessible via mobile, gaming and connected devices.
The pro wrestling outfit said Tuesday morning the English-language version of its over-the-top WWE Network is now available in over 170 countries and territories, including Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico, Spain, and the Nordics. WWE said availability on mobile, gaming and connected devices will roll out through the day.
The Stamford, Conn. wrestling outfit said that WWE Network will be available by Aug. 13 on Sony Internet-connected TVs, Blu-ray Disc players and Blu-ray Home Theater systems. By Aug. 15, WWE Network will be available on Samsung Smart TV devices, Blu-ray Players and Home Theater systems.
The moves are aimed at helping the WWE Network reach 1 million subscribers, a base the grappling group said it needs to reach to offset pay-per-revenue losses stemming from the migration of said events to the online service. The network, which debuted Feb. 24, and added 667,000 subs in its first six weeks, with growth slowing in recent months.
Come October, WWE Network is also expected to launch in the U.K. in October and Italy with accessibility in the UAE, Germany, Japan, India, China, Thailand and Malaysia slated for a later bow.
International subscribers will be offered the same $9.99 per month with a six month commitment, but WWE has lowered the month-by-month rate to $12.99.
