Ad-supported streaming platform Xumo has appointed former Sling TV executive Dan Lloyd as its new head of engineering.
In his new role, Lloyd will oversee development and optimization of all engineering and technology operations for Xumo, which reported a 325% increase in year-over-year viewership in August.
Lloyd is a four-year veteran of Echostar and Dish Network, having most recently served as VP of engineering for the satellite operator’s Sling TV virtual MVPD.

“Bringing a senior executive of Dan’s caliber on board is critical to executing Xumo’s aggressive expansion plans,” stated Colin Petrie-Norris, CEO of Xumo, in a statement. “The company has achieved explosive growth over the past 12 months and strengthening our technology foothold will reinforce Xumo’s leadership position in free, ad-supported OTT services as well as pave the way for exciting new opportunities.”
Lloyd's departure from Dish comes two weeks after CTO Vivek Khemka left the company.

Irvine, Calif.-based Xumo offers more than 140 digital channels of free programming across 12 genres, including sports, news, kids and family entertainment, live events, comedy, lifestyle and movies. Xumo is available through a wide range of smart TVs, where it’s available in 30 million U.S. households, as well as on mobile devices and the internet.
