Xumo Streams in Local Now

Xumo, the free, ad-supported OTT video aggregation service, has expanded its streaming slate with the addition of Local Now, the hyper-local service that’s backed by The Weather Channel.

Launched in June 2016, Local Now delivers localized content in areas such as news, weather (of course), lifestyle, sports, business and traffic. Content partners for the service include the Associated Press, American City Business Journals, SportsRadar and Flight Aware, and others. Local Now counts Sling TV, Dish Network’s OTT TV service, among its distributors.

Xumo will initially offer Local Now on Channel Plus, a Xumo-powered service for webOS-based smart TVs from LG Electronics, as channel IP-126. The Local Now stream will dynamically update in the Channel Plus service based on the viewer’s zip code selection.

Xumo will also extend access to Local Now on other compatible platforms, which include smart TVs from LG Electronics, Vizio, Panasonic, Magnavox, Panasonic, Philips, Sanyo and Hisense, as well as Roku devices and apps for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. In October, Xumo announced a distribution/integration deal with Layer3 TV, the Denver-based MVPD.
