In what would mark its first distribution deal, Yankees Entertainment &
Sports Network has reached a tentative agreement with direct-broadcast satellite
service DirecTV Inc.
DirecTV will most likely offer the fledgling sports service as part of its
'Total Choice' package, according to sources close to the situation.
A YES spokeswoman would not comment on the matter. Representatives from
DirecTV could not be reached for comment at press time.
YES has yet to reach agreements with New York-area cable operators, which
have intimated a desire to offer the expensive network on a pay tier.
Scheduled for a mid-March launch, YES will carry more than 130 New York
Yankees Major League Baseball games.
It will also offer a live simulcast of New York sports-radio station WFAN's
afternoon show featuring radio DJs Mike Francesa and Chris (Mad Dog)
