YES Pays Tribute To Jeter

The New York Yankees will pay tribute to Derek Jeter on Sunday and YES Network will be along for The Captain’s ride.

The regional sports network home to the Yankees will present a special Jeter pre-game show at noon, featuring tributes from fellow MLBers, other athletes and celebrities and culminating with coverage of the live ceremony from the big ballpark in The Bronx.

YES at 1 p.m. will follow with its presentation of the rubber match of the three-game set against the Kansas City Royals.

After the ballgame, YES will serve up Derek Jeter: Salute2 The Captain, a two-hour special that will showcase Meredith Marakovits’ sitdown with the future Hall of Famer, who will talk about his favorite teammates and his toughest opponents, as well as discuss his image and his career.

The special will also include “Jeter's Journey,” a feature reported and narrated by Jack Curry with interviews with people who played major roles in Jeter's development: Yankee executive Gene Michael; Mike Hinga (Jeter's summer travel baseball coach); Gary Denbo (his minor league coach); former Yankees first base coach Brian Butterfield; and ex-teammate Luis Sojo.

Vignettes, highlighting Jeter's top career moments, are also on tap: “The Dive”; his first career hit, 3,000th, passing Gehrig on all-time Yankees hit list; "Mr. November"; and Jeffrey Maier, among them.

The show will also feature a review of the gifts he has received from opponents throughout this seaon

Bob Lorenz, Jack Curry and John Flaherty will be in the YES studio, and Michael Kay, Paul O'Neill, David Cone and Meredith Marakovits will be at the Stadium.
