YES averaged a 10.01 rating in the New York DMA with its presentation of the New York Yankees' 9-7 loss in the first defense of their 2009 World Series title to the Bosox on April 4, translating into almost 1.09 million viewers, according to Nielsen data.
Those performances trailed only the 11.6 rating and 1.21 million watchers YES averagedwith its April 3, 2005 coverage of that season's opener between the clubs, which featured the teams in a role reversal: Boston had ended the 86-year "Curse of the Bambino" by winning the 2004 World Series.
Last night's YES Network telecast peaked at a 12.5 TV household rating and 1.39 million viewers during the 8:45 p.m. quarter hour.
YES's Yankees one-hour pre-game show at 7 p.m. averaged a 2.22 average TV household rating, while its post-game show averaged a 2.13 TV household rating.
An encore presentation of The Joe Girardi Show airing at 1 a.m. April 5, immediately following the post-game show, scored a 1.31 average TV household rating in the New York DMA.
