‘Yule Log’ To Burn Brightly On VOD, In HD

The Yule Log, the popular holiday tradition of a video fireplace, will be offered by Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks on video-on-demand this year, officials said Wednesday.

Because of the Yule Log’s long-running success, iN Demand Networks has created two new versions of the on-screen hearth:Winter Greenand Snowman. The service launches Dec. 8 (with earlier sneak previews in select locations) and airs throughout the month as part of the cable operators’ free on-demand service. These VOD titles will be free to customers.

iN Demand’s Yule Log version stands out as the only originally produced HDTV offering. iN Demand’s YuleLogfeatures a crackling fire and is meant to add warmth this holiday season, even for those without a fireplace. Winter Green shows a snowy, pine forest setting, while Snowmanfeatures a snowman dressed in top hat, scarf and neckerchief (carrot nose included) withstanding a windy, snowy storm.

All three offerings, accompanied by holiday music, were filmed with HD-cameras and are presented in 1080i picture and 5.1 sound.

“Customers have sought out and enjoyed our Yule Log for the past six years,” Jason Patton, senior vice president of business development for iN Demand Networks, said in a prepared statement. “Every year we receive more and more positive feedback from our viewers so we decided to expand our offerings and add Snowmanand Winter Green. It’s our gift to digital cable subscribers: the most heart-warming backdrops for their holiday celebrations.”

These three offerings will help viewers get into the holiday spirit as they are accompanied by a series of holiday songs including traditional carols like Joy to the World,Hark the Herald Angels Sing and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
