ZON Multimédia of Portugal has launched a recommendations engine from ThinkAnalytics on set-tops running the operator's IRIS pay-TV platform, and has plans to extend the feature to PCs, tablets and smartphones at a later, still unannounced date.
ZON, an operator with 1.6 million customers, has stitched the feature into the set-top box user interface (based on the Cisco Systems/NDS Snowflake platform) and now offers video recommendations for both linear TV and video-on-demand services.
“With the addition of ThinkAnalytics’ Recommendations Engine, we are complementing our innovative user interface with a service that ensures our subscribers get the maximum enjoyment from their viewing time as they discover new programmes and movies they will enjoy,” said Nuno Sanches, ZON’s product development director, in a statement.
U.K.-based ThinkAnalytics, which competes with vendors such as DigitalSmiths, has been on a roll as pay TV operators look for recommendations engines to help subscribers navigate an ever-expanding video menu. Last month, ThinkAnalytics announced it had 52 operator customers worldwide, with a combined licensed subscriber base of 130 million, up from the 40 operators and 100 million licenses subs in reported in February 2013.
In addition to ZON, other announced wins for the vendor include Liberty Global (including Liberty’s Unitymedia and Virgin Media properties), BSkyB, Swisscom, Telenet, Canal Digital, and Cox Communications, which is using ThinkAnalytics' recommendation platform in its Trio set-top guide and recently launched iPad app.
