SCHEDULING STRATEGIES:

Comedy is trying to establish a second destination night for the network, which has used its powerhouse Wednesdays, home to SOUTH PARK as its primary launch pad for new series. Current primetime hits MENCIA, RENO and FUTURAMA all premiered leading out of SOUTH PARK.

Comedy is also known for their original specials and stunt programming.  Typically they stunt around holidays like a Halloween or Thanksgiving with original series and or movies that tie in to a common theme.  And recently they have acquired many network window and library theatrical movies that have been launch pads for such originals which they typically air on Saturday nights as their movie night of the week.

DECEMBER 2008 PRIMETIME RATINGS ANALYSIS:

The monthly primetime Monday-Sunday average for ratings, share and demo delivery was down slightly this month compared to last month, November.  Overall share and delivery was down -8% and -10%, respectively.   However, Monday and Friday nights in particular showed significant growth.  Share was up +22% and +33%, and delivery was up +16% and +26%, respectively. Delivery for Men 18-49 on both nights was up +12% and +5%.

All of the usual key players for the network's highest rated series programs continue.  Staple series such as SOUTH PARK, DAILY SHOW, COLBERT, and FUTURAMA dominate the primetime schedule. DAILY SHOW was down this month, as was COLBERT in all key demos. However they have both enjoyed a successful run this year, especially as they both capped on specials that received record ratings that satirized on the election of President Barack Obama.FUTURAMA was up +11% delivery this month, and signature show SOUTH PARK was down in key demos overall.Even so, this award winning series completed its current run this year as the "#1 program in all of television in its timeslot among Men 18-24 and Men 18-34" (Comedy press).

This month Comedy strayed a little from its usual schedule of vertical stacking Monday - Friday.By week three, Comedy scheduled some movies into the line-up and stacked episodes of original series.Tuesday night specials again included Lewis Black and Jeff Dunham repeats.Jeff Dunham's Very Special Christmas Special, once again aired this month, very appropriately due to the holiday season. This special last month drew a huge amount of viewers making it Comedy's most-watched telecast ever.

Wednesday and Thursday nights continued with original series CHOCOLATE NEWS and SARAH SILVERMAN.SILVERMAN, a Comedy cult favorite was in new episodes this month, right up until the finale on December 11th.Both SILVERMAN and CHOCOLATE were down this month however overall. But nevertheless, both shows continue to hold their own, and continue to attract the Men 18-24 demographics.

Friday nights were more episodes of repeated originals and specials from Jeff Dunham, Lewis Black, and Brian Regan - do we see a trend here??And rounding out the weekend were more movies. Movies in general were up +8% in overall share.Titles worthy of mentioning this month: Legally Blonde, Napoleon Dynamite, Accepted, Blue Collar Comedy Tour and The Wedding Singer.

ADDITIONAL RATINGS:

Jeff Dunham's Very Special Christmas Specia" "drew an average 6.6 million total viewers, making it COMEDY CENTRAL's most watched telecast ever. The special now stands as Comedy Central's most watched and highest rated stand up special ever on total viewers, Persons 18-49, Men 18-34 and Men 18-24."
