Live Primetime Ratings Comparison:
July 2009 vs July 2008
Yearly % change*
*The Nielsen Company's National Television Audience Sample
Overall, the Monday-Sunday primetime averages for ratings, share and delivery were up this month as compared to one year ago, last July 2008. Share was up +14% and delivery was up +12%. Adults 18-49 and 25-54 share and delivery were up +13% and +14%, respectively. Signature programming such as TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY was up a modest +3%, while ON E! was up +76% in overall delivery. THE SOUP was up +4% and DENISE RICHARDS was up +67% in overall share from one year ago.
Comparing last month's primetime averages, both share and delivery were on par. Overall share fell flat and delivery was down -3%. Tuesday and Wednesday nights did show significant growth with increases in delivery by as much as +26% and +7%, respectively.
Programming that continues to be the staples for the channel include: THE SOUP, TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY, THE GIRLS NEXT DOOR, ON E! and SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. THE SOUP was down this month as was TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY. Last month E! was able to piggyback on controversial subjects. With the passing of Michael Jackson, and the extensive amount of footage E! had on him and his family, no doubt contributed to last months ratings success. This month profiled Natasha Richardson, in deed a tragic death, but not a world phenomenon like Jackson. This network has an unbelievable appeal to act as a tabloid magazine and exploit their subjects accordingly. GIRLS NEXT DOOR and SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE were off the air this month. ON E! was up +110% share and in all key demos. Again profiling Michael Jackson again this month, even though they were repeats from last month, contributed to this franchise series ratings success.
Original series KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIANS was down again overall this month. However, it still continues to be one of the highest rated signature programs on the network.Again it was beaten out of the top spot by original series KENDRA which premiered last month. KENDRA is averaging about 2 million viewers, almost double the time period average. (Hollywood Reporter 7/22/09)DENISE RICHARDS: IT'S COMPLICATED now in its second season which also kicked off last month was up +8% with Adults 18-49 this month. Two original reality shows that have really resonated with the E! viewer.
The MOVIES WE LOVE franchise was down significantly this month, but they ran the same film over and over again. And rounding out the month, yet again are the classic tabloid-labeled specials, some franchises in their own right, that keep their viewers coming back month after month: 20 Hollywood Murders, 20 Unsolved Crimes, 15 Most Notorious Women, and 30 Best and Worst Beach Bodies.
SEX AND THE CITY, HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU, and THE WOMEN. (Premieres July 2012. In addition sister network Style will have concurrent rights to all 3 titles.)
KENDRA (season #2, 12 episodes)
KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIANS (season #3)
