By airing 2 off-net shows that appeal both to the "gamer' and the male demographic, G4 sets up a promotional vehicle to launch new originals.
G4 is getting more into off-net acquisitions in primetime. With high profile acquisitions like COPS, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, LOST and now HEROES gives the Channel a built in audience immediately that they might have not had. These series speaks perfectly to G4's young-male audience and is an excellent complement to the network's programming lineup, which includes content such as Comic-Con coverage, live daily strip ATTACK OF THE SHOW AND and video-game-review series X-PLAY. It also allows the network to use the hit NBC show to expand their brands and promote original programming. G4 is launching a companion show that will air immediately after the new episodes of HEROES dubbed THE POST SHOW, the program will feature interactive elements including polls and chats, as well as interviews with cast and crew and previews of future episodes. This kind of acquisition also shows that they are a serious player for product in the cable/broadcast acquisition marketplace.

AUGUST 2008 PRIMETIME RATINGS ANALYSIS:
G4's primetime average for ratings, share and delivery Monday-Sunday was down this month compared to July. However, Saturday nights specifically this month showed some growth. Overall delivery was up a modest +2%, but Men 18-49 was up +17%.
G4's Monday-Friday primetime programs are half-hour stacks, a mix of acquired and original. For the most part their programming has been pretty consistent week to week with staples like COPS, NINJA WARRIORS, X-PLAY and ATTACK SHOW.X-PLAY was up this month in overall delivery by +11%, however NINJA was down -29%.COPS was up +9% delivery while ATTACK SHOW was down.
Japanese import UNBEATABLE BANZUKE was one of the highest rated programs on the network this month.BANZUKE was up +22% in overall delivery.Last month's premiere of HURL was down this month. We'll keep an eye on this series that challenges contestants who compete in a speed-eating contest followed by physical challenges intended to shake up their stomachs. Maybe G4 viewers have had their fill of this one!
The PETER SERAFINOWICZ series premiered this month. This comic actor displays a wide variety of offbeat characters and impersonates other well know actors in this six party half-hour comedy series. It's part of the DUTY FREE TV nightly international programming block on Friday nights. While not exactly holding onto its lead-in numbers, let's give this one some time to develop.Another series that premiered this month was FREAKY.This show showcased six talented street musicians who perform magic anywhere they can find an unsuspecting audience. Again, with only a few airings it's hard to judge, but so far it has outperformed its lead-in of SERAFINOWICZ.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday were mix bags of repeated specials and stacked series. In addition to quite a few specials to note of this month: Women of the Web, Star Wars Japan Celebration, and the finals for Championship Gaming which was down this month. Not enough to make an impact on the ratings this month, but does diversify the line-up.And rounding out the month were some G4 theatrical movies worthy of mentioning that is shared inventory with sister networks: "Toxic Avenger" and "Kingpin".
