TOP PRIMETIME SHOWS
X-PLAY, COPS 2.0, COPS, INTERNATIONAL SEXY LADIES SHOW, WEB SOUP, NINJA WARRIOR
G4 is in the midst of a shift in its programming strategy. G4 had been stripping new episodes of X-PLAY and daily tech/pop culture series ATTACK OF THE SHOW weekday evenings. Now it has made the commitment to cut back the number of weekly editions of X-PLAY and AOTS. The network plans to take the money saved from those shows and use it to develop more original programming. Cutting back on strips allows them to use their money on other new projects like a G4 UNDERGROUND.
G4 has also been spending more money and getting into off-network acquisitions in primetime. High profile acquisitions like COPS, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, LOST and HEROES. This allows the channel a built in audience immediately that they might have not had. These series speaks perfectly to G4's young-male audience and are an excellent complement to the network's programming lineup, which includes content such as Comic-Con coverage, live daily strip ATTACK OF THE SHOW and video-game-review series X-PLAY. It also allows the network to use the hit NBC show HEROES to expand their brands and promote original programming. This kind of acquisition also shows that they are a serious player for product in the cable/broadcast acquisition marketplace.

Overall Monday-Sunday primetime averages for ratings, share and delivery were up considerably, compared to one year ago June 2008. Share was up +100% and delivery was up +19%, respectively. Men 18-49 were up +23% in delivery and an increase of +17% with Men 25-54. NINJA WARRIOR was up considerably from a year ago by as much as +64%. Mainly due to a NINJA WARRIOR marathon over the course of three days towards the end of the month. This Japanese competition series marathon was a perfect launching pad for the premiere of NINJA FEST 4. In addition, COPS was up +5% and X-PLAY was up modestly from one year ago.
Comparing Monday-Sunday primetime monthly averages, G4 was up this month. While share fell flat, overall delivery was up +4%. Delivery for Men 18-49 was up +26% from last month's averages.
As usual, G4's primetime programs were stacks of half-hour original and acquired product. For the most part its programming strategy has been pretty consistent week to week. Programming that continues to be the staples on the network were X-PLAY, COPS, COPS 2.0, CHEATERS and MOVIES dominating the schedule. X-PLAY was up +26%. COPS was up +50% share, but COPS 2.0, the interactive version, fell flat. COPS, an off-network acquisition, continues to be the highest rated program on the channel. CHEATERS was down overall this month. And MOVIES were up +7% in overall delivery. G4's branded franchise "Movies That Don't Suck" is popular with its viewers, as long as new titles continue to roll out.
The real highlight of the month were two original series premieres that dominated the ratings. Both WEB SOUP and the INTERNATIONAL SEXY LADIES SHOW premiered on the 7th. Even with summertime competition, Sunday nights continue amongst the cable networks to be the home of where original series seem to launch. Both half-hour reality shows, WEB SOUP from the producers of E! networks (also sister network to G4), THE SOUP. Serving up the best and worst of the web - its a perfect home for this series. SEXY LADIES which features the sexiest clips from around the world also seems to have become a fan favorite this month. A young male oriented network, including sexy ladies and technology well do we need to say more?
G4 UNDERGROUND which was in new episodes last month was not on the schedule this month, nor was off-net acquisition HEROES. However, one of the highlights for this tech savvy network was a four night, live coverage of the E3 09 LIVE. G4 was named the official broadcaster of the 2009 ELECTRONIC ENTERTAINMENT EXPO. Its these kinds of event programs that that are the tentpoles for much of G4's programming. It caters strictly to its young male demographics.
Overall a pretty impressive month of ratings and programming for this young, male oriented network. In fact the channel reached a new zenith this month. The cabler rose to new highs among their target 18-34 and 18-49 demographics.
