By airing 2 off-net shows that appeal both to the "gamer' and the male demographic, G4 sets up a promotional vehicle to launch new originals.
G4 is getting more into off-net acquisitions in primetime. With high profile acquisitions like COPS, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, LOST and now HEROES gives the Channel a built in audience immediately that they might have not had. These series speaks perfectly to G4's young-male audience and is an excellent complement to the network's programming lineup, which includes content such as Comic-Con coverage, live daily strip ATTACK OF THE SHOW AND and video-game-review series X-PLAY. It also allows the network to use the hit NBC show to expand their brands and promote original programming. G4 is launching a companion show that will air immediately after the new episodes of HEROES dubbed THE POST SHOW, the program will feature interactive elements including polls and chats, as well as interviews with cast and crew and previews of future episodes. This kind of acquisition also shows that they are a serious player for product in the cable/broadcast acquisition marketplace.

SEPTEMBER 2008 PRIMETIME RATINGS ANALYSIS:
G4's primetime average for ratings, share and delivery Monday-Sunday was up slightly this month compared to August. However, Sunday nights specifically this month showed significant growth. Overall delivery was up +49%, and Men 25-54 was up +71%.In fact Sunday nights overall were up in all key demos.
G4's Monday-Friday primetime programs are half-hour stacks, a mix of acquired and original. For the most part their programming has been pretty consistent week to week with staples like COPS, NINJA WARRIORS, X-PLAY and ATTACK SHOW.X-PLAY was down this month, as was NINJA and UNBEATABLE BANZUKE.Unlike last month, this Japanese import was one of the highest rated programs on the network, not the case this month. COPS was up +4% and COPS 2.0 was up +58% in overall delivery.
Tuesdays kicked of new episodes of the off-net acquisition HEROES.HEROES was the top rated program of the month on this Channel, so no doubt we will be seeing more episodes in future weeks.
The PETER SERAFINOWICZ series which premiered last month fell flat this month, as was FREAKY - not much to report on here with the numbers. Both series are part of the DUTY FREE TV nightly international programming block on Friday nights. While not exactly holding onto its lead-in numbers, let's give this one some time to develop.Another series that premiered this month was FREAKY.Again, like we said last month, with only a couple of airings it's hard to predict its fate just yet.
Saturday was a double stack of WARRIOR followed by stacks of COPS.And the numbers speak for themselves this week. This is the kind of programming G4 viewers are hooked on.COPS and COPS 2.0 are huge successes.
Sunday nights premiered another off-network acquisition LOST.With high profile acquisitions like COPS, HEROES and LOST this creates a built in audience immediately that they might have not had. These series speaks perfectly to G4's young-male audience and is an excellent complement to the network's programming lineup. It also allows the network to use the hit NBC show to expand their brands and promote original programming.
In addition on Sunday, Sept. 21st there was a special presentation of MGM's 1987 cult classic feature film, followed by two hours of all new, never-before-seen chapters of "Mel Brooks' Spaceballs: The Animated Series." SPACEBALLS stands as Brooks' homage to genre films in which the master of comedy skewers some of filmdom's biggest blockbusters. The animated series picks up where the cult classic feature film left off, delivering hilarious parodies of today's pop culture. We'll keep an eye on this newbie to see how the G4 viewer responds!
