Much of GSN's programming is conventional studio-based quizzers that dominate primetime. However, they are leading up with new specials and theme nights as in the case of their Vegas Night block of casino programming.
GSN continually looks to redefine and expand the definition of game and competition. What have made their loyal viewers come back again and again are the programs that challenge game play and trivia. New programming generally tends to pursue the traditional, broad half-hour strip game show format with interactive play-along elements. In addition to non-traditional one hour series: competitive reality shows, documentaries, story-driven & celebrity-driven formats.

Comparing GSN's primetime monthly averages were up substantially this month compared to last month. Overall share was up +67% and delivery was up +30%. Adults 25-54 were up +50% share. In fact there were significant increases across the board in all key demos this month.
Programming staples on the network which show no signs of erosion were MILLIONAIRE, FAMILY FEUD, and POKER. HIGH STAKES POKER 4 and WORLD POKER TOUR was up +33%, and POKER 5 was up +25% share overall. WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE, the 30-minute version which was double pumped all week in primetime was up 25% and +50% share with both Men and Women 18-49 and 25-54. FAMILY FEUD was also up +25%. Both ratings and delivery were stellar this month.
In addition to all the viewer favorites, there were many premieres to speak of this month. This is exactly what GSN was lacking for months, and needed desperately to revive the ratings. Even though most of our commentary is about primetime programming, it is important to mention two new acquisitions that premiered this month. DEAL OR NO DEAL premiered on the network on June 1st at 7pm and 11pm. A major network acquisition for GSN. And on June 6th the premiere of 1 VS 100 at 6pm, a nice new edition leading into late fringe.
Also on June 6th was the premiere of THE GAME SHOW AWARDS, which was GSN's very first awards show at 8pm. It honored the classic and contemporary game shows. It also included a participatory experience for the both at-home fans and those in the studio audience. A programming strategy that has become the norm on this channel. Saturday June 13th were the premiere of 2 new originals in primetime, 20Q and THE MONEY LIST. Two new game shows which were a welcome addition to weekend block programming. It replaced CHAIN REACTION, THE WEAKEST LINK and RUSSIAN ROULETTE on Saturday nights. We'll keep a close eye on these new originals to see how they perform in future weeks.
The rest of the Monday-Friday line-up continues to be a consistent vertical stack of programs. NEWLYWED, the classic game show was up +33% this month. CATCH 21 was up +61% in delivery alone this month. Considering that both series were down significantly last month, it was a welcome change to have the numbers go back up!
