TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC:

Strongest Demo is Adults 25-54, with a slightly female skew.  However, there are stronger male demos on Mondays due to POKER.

OCTOBER 2008 PRIMETIME SCHEDULE

TOP PRIMETIME SHOWS:

HIGH STAKES POKER,  WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE, FAMILY FEUD, WORLD POKER TOUR, CATCH 2, PYRAMID, CHAIN REACTION, RUSSIAN ROULETTE

SCHEDULING STRATEGIES:

Much of GSN's programming is conventional studio-based quizzers that dominate primetime.  However, they are leading up with new specials and theme nights as in the case of their Vegas Night block of casino programming.  Their schedule seems to be constantly changing and in flux.

GSN has acquired the rights to the WORLD POKER TOUR which solidifies the network's brand and will help build ratings for GSN's weekly Monday night casino-themed line-up which will air in Fall '08.

OCTOBER 2008 PRIMETIME RATINGS ANALYSIS:

Overall, the primetime Monday-Sunday average for ratings, share and demos were up this month compared to September.Overall share was up +33% and delivery was up +14%.There was substantial growth on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.Delivery was up +28%, +19%, and +27%, respectively.

Highly rated programs for the network continue to sustain: MILLIONAIRE, FAMILY FEUD, and HIGH STAKES POKER.HIGH STAKES POKER 4 was up +8% in delivery overall and WORLD POKER TOUR was up +4%.MILLIONAIRE was up +25% share. And FEUD was up +5% in overall delivery this month.

Monday nights strayed this month from their usual casino themed line-up and there was an consistent vertical schedule Monday-Friday this month.  MILLIONAIRE and a double stack of FAMILY FEUD led into CATCH 21 and PYRAMID.  CATCH 21 was up +15% in delivery and +50% in Women 25-54.  PYRAMID was up +7% delivery and also +50% with Women 25-54.  CATCH and PYRAMID have proven themselves to be solid replacements for the primetime schedule when GSN took out the strip of WHAMMY and RUSSIAN ROULETTE just a couple of months ago.

Saturday nights held steady with MILLIONAIRE, WEAKEST LINK, CHAIN REACTION and RUSSIAN ROULETTE. CHAIN was up 12% delivery and ROULETTE was up substantially with a +50% share and +39% increase in delivery overall.  Perhaps with a new re-branding campaign, its just what the network needed to spruce up its ratings.  About time, and a welcome change!

Sunday nights continued with HIGH STAKES POKER 4 and WORLD POKER TOUR.Switching to an all casino line-up on the weekend paid off.  And with a lot of attention to on/off air components of game playing, it has enhanced their viewers commitment to their programming and had made some older acquisitions new and fresh.
