October was a stellar month for the Sci Fi Channel.  New original series brought in big audiences, and old favorites continued to build and grow audiences.

Compared to a year ago, the Sci Fi Channel is up 27% in HH Share.  Modest gains in male viewers were offset by much larger gains in younger female demographics.

Viewers are still clearly responding well to the ever-expanding GHOST HUNTERS franchise on Wednesday nights, and newcomber SANCTUARY, is attracting big audiences on Friday nights.  The show has already been renewed for season two.

OCTOBER 2008 PRIMETIME RATINGS ANALYSIS: New original series, returning franchises, and stronger concepts have all contributed to making October one of the Sci Fi Channel's strongest months.  Overall, the network was up 8% in overall viewer share from a month ago and saw nice gains across the female demographics.  More so than ever before, the Sci Fi Channel is demonstrating that they are a mainstream entertainment channel, and provide programming that has a mass appeal, all the while not alienating their hard-core Sci Fi fans.

Monday nights were the weakest night of the week, despite the acquisition of ABC's LOST.  Perhaps viewers are inundated with reruns on other networks and on the web, but it's clear that viewers aren't tuning into the Sci Fi channel to catch up on past episodes of this program.

Tuesday nigths were one of the few evenings to show some loss from a month ago.  SCARE TACTICS performs well, but still doesn't outperform ECW, which is buried in the middle of a lineup of SCARE TACTICS.  Viewers are clearly tuning in to see wrestling, and then leaving shortly after, although the new Tuesday night schedule is an interesting choice.

Wednesday nights remains GHOST HUNTERS night.  This month, back to back episodes of GHOST HUNTERS led into DESTINATION TRUTH.  The evening was up 11% from a month ago.  While GHOST HUNTERS still dominates the lineup, DESTINATION TRUTH has been unable to maintain the lead-in numbers.  Look for more of the GHOST HUNTERS franchise in the coming months.  Wednesday was the strongest night of the week this month.

Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays are all linueps of MOVIES and ORIGINAL MOVIES on the Sci Fi Channel.  Thursady and Saturday both saw nice gains in audience from September, but Sundays slipped a little in the ratings.

Friday nights' lineup of sci fi originals  comes in with some of the biggest numbers for the week.  Newcomer SANCTUARY scored big off of STARGATE ATLANTIS as its lead in, and the show has already been renewed.

PROGRAM ACQUISITIONS:
The Sci Fi Channel aquired two direct-to-DVD STARGATE Movies: Ark of Truth and Continuum LOST (aquisition from ABC), will begin airing on September 15, 2008, at 7pm.  Sci Fi will air all four seasons in four-episode blocks every Monday during the fall.

PROGRAM RENEWALS:

SANCTUARY has been renewed for a second season.

Sci Fi Channel ordered another 9 episodes of SCARE TACTICS.

A new season of ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling) will premiere on Tuesday, September 30 at 9pm and will be followed by new episodes of SCARE TACTICS, with Tracy Morgan, at 10pm. They replace EUREKA, the mid-season finale of which will air on September 23.  Remaining episodes of EUREKA and STARGATE ATLANTIS are expected to be aired in 2009. (C21)

SCI FI Channel is stretching the current seasons of GHOST HUNTERS and DESTINATION TRUTH. Thirteen new episodes were ordered for GHOST HUNTERS' fourth season airing on Wednesdays at 9p, and DESTINATION TRUTH will be back this fall with seven more episodes for its second season.  (Cynopsis)
