ARRIS Transcoder Satellite Receiver for Satellite Network Upgrade Selected by Starz

SUWANEE, Ga. -- ARRIS International plc (NASDAQ: ARRS) today announced that Starz selected the ARRIS® DSR-7401 transcoder satellite receiver to derive standard definition programming from high definition video programming to reduce satellite network bandwidth while preparing for future content distribution technologies.

The ARRIS DSR-7401 offers a new level of density and extensibility to modernize delivery of the Starz services to affiliate operators. The DSR-7401 transcoded output is compatible with the vast installed base of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 SD set-top boxes and can process up to 12 services in a compact single rack unit. The DSR-7401 supports Statistical Multiplex output, which enables operators to efficiently deliver SD services through their existing QAM networks. The DSR-7401 also includes multi-tuner capability, for simultaneously receiving and processing up to four input satellite transponder multiplexes, for service selection flexibility across networks.

The DSR-7401 is ready for the future, supporting both HEVC compression and DVB-S2X modulation. Both technologies can be used to increase the video capacity of satellite transmission channels, improving existing video service fidelity, or for launching new services such as 4K HDR programming.

ARRIS Global Services is providing numerous services to ensure seamless deployment for Starz. They include: order fulfilment, distribution, registration, installation and call center customer support.

Starz will also be deploying the new ARRIS Broadcast Network Controller 3.8 management system to remotely provision the DSR-7401 IRD's capabilities across the network—including service selection across four satellite transponders, output Statmux configuration, and SD format control.

"Starz continues to invest in providing our affiliates the best entertainment experiences. We chose the ARRIS DSR-7401 transcoder to lead our next phase of network development because it will support our affiliates' legacy set-tops, while enabling us to deliver today's most demanding services and preparing us for tomorrow's advanced experiences," said Ray Milius, EVP, Programming Operations, Starz. "ARRIS is a trusted partner and helped us leverage the latest technology to deliver the future of entertainment to our subscribers."

"The new ARRIS DSR-7401 transcoder receiver is another example of ARRIS's focus on accelerating the delivery of next-gen entertainment services," said Dan Whalen, President, Network & Cloud and Global Services, ARRIS. "Our work with Starz extends our leadership in advanced video network system deployments and continues our legacy of helping the world's leading content providers incorporate the latest bandwidth efficiencies and compression technologies required to provide the next era of entertainment."
