Executives Responsible for Award-Winning Campaigns on Behalf of

FX Networks Original Series and The Overall Brand

LOS ANGELES, July 6, 2015 – FX Networks has promoted five senior marketing executives in recognition of their contributions to its award-winning marketing, digital media and on-air teams, it was announced today by Stephanie Gibbons, President, Marketing, Digital Media, and On-Air Promotions for FX Networks.

Sally Daws has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Marketing and Digital Media, and John Varvi has been named Executive Vice President, On-Air Promotions. In addition, Todd Heughens has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Print Design; Jason Phipps is Senior Vice President, Digital Media; and Lance Reiss has been named Senior Vice President, Marketing. The five executives will continue to report to Gibbons. FX Networks consists of FX, FXX, FXM and the digital video-on-demand platform FXNOW.

Under Gibbons’ leadership, FX Networks’ marketing, digital media and on-air departments have won more than 329 combined PromaxBDA and The Hollywood Reporter Key Art Awards, including an unprecedented five consecutive years of receiving the PromaxBDA Award for Marketing Team of the Year (2011 – 2015) – every year since the award’s inception.

The promotions announced today are as follows:

Sally Daws - Executive Vice President, Marketing and Digital Media

Sally Daws most recently served as Senior Vice President, Marketing and Digital Media. In the new role, she will continue to oversee the network’s advertising and national media planning and buying, consumer integrated promotions, and digital media, including the award-winning TV Everywhere application, FXNOW and Simpsons World.

Daws is responsible for marketing, promotional and digital initiatives for the critically and commercially successful roster of FX networks’ hit series including American Horror Story, Fargo,It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, You’re The Worst, Archer, The Americans and the upcoming The Bastard Executioner.

Daws joined FX shortly after the network launched in 1994, and she has assumed numerous progressively responsible positions in both marketing, on-air promotions and digital media. Previous to her position as Vice President and then Senior Vice President of Marketing, she served as Vice President of Creative Services for FX, where she was responsible for producing integrated sales campaigns for on-air advertisers.

Daws received a B.A. degree in graphic design from CSUN.

John Varvi - Executive Vice President, On-Air Promotions

John Varvi most recently served as Senior Vice President of On-Air Promotions at FX Networks. He is responsible for network branding, series campaigns, episodic promotions, and on-air editorial, operations and scheduling. He has worked on the launch and sustain of every FX original series since premiering The Shield in 2002, including: Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Damages, Archer, Sons of Anarchy, Louie, Justified, The Americans, Tyrant, Fargo and American Horror Story.

Before joining FX in 2002, Varvi served as Vice President & Creative Director of the Brand Solutions division of Rare Medium, supervising all day-to-day creative and production.

Prior to Rare Medium, Varvi was Senior Vice President & Creative Director of Friedland Jacobs Communications (FJC), an entertainment-based advertising and marketing firm. He helped establish FJC in 1995 while serving as Executive Producer of Imagine One Productions.

In 1990, Varvi co-created and served as Supervising Producer of Roggin's Heroes, the half-hour comedy series from MCA/Universal. In its three-year run, the show was Universal's highest-rated first-run syndicated series.

Varvi began his career in 1980 at NBC4, Los Angeles.

Varvi's industry honors include: Three LA Emmy® Awards, The New York Festivals “World Medal,” a variety of Hollywood Reporter Key Art Awards, as well as numerous PromaxBDA honors, including five-time Marketing Team Of The Year.

Todd Heughens - Senior Vice President, FX Print Design

Todd Heughens most recently served as Vice President, FX Print Design. In his new role, Todd will continue to head up the award-winning Print Design department, which is responsible for developing all of the key art, print and outdoor campaigns for FX, FXX and FXM, as well as overseeing the use of all photography and static imagery created by the department, across all platforms.

Todd joined FX in January of 2006 and, in collaboration with some of the best photographers and design agencies in the business, he and his team have created some of the most arresting and groundbreaking imagery in television marketing from Nip/Tuck to Sons of Anarchy to American Horror Story.

Previous to his tenure with FX Networks, Heughens worked at Showtime Network, first as a Designer and eventually as Senior Art Director.

Todd is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati.

Jason Phipps - Senior Vice President, Digital Media

Phipps most recently served as Vice President, Digital Media. In the new role, he will be responsible for daily oversight of digital media efforts for FX Networks. From interactive content to technology, he is responsible for all aspects of FXNetworks.com, FXNOW, the multi-platform on-demand video service supporting FX, FXX and FXM networks and Simpsons World.

In addition, Phipps oversees a larger digital ecosystem that includes management of FX’s social networks, content and applications for handheld and connected devices, as well as emerging consumer focused technologies.

Phipps is also responsible for developing partnerships with leading digital media and internet companies supporting network programming and digital ventures. He works with National and Digital Sales teams to develop unique sponsorships based on the network’s interactive content. 

Phipps previously served as Executive Director of Digital Media for Disney/ ABC Television Group. His primary responsibilities included managing interactive marketing and marketing partnership development for the network and general operations for ABC Family Channel’s interactive platforms including ABCfamily.com. Phipps also served as Director of Interactive Marketing for Fox Family Channel and FoxKids.com.

Prior to joining Fox Family Channel, Phipps served in Network Sales and Operations for Fox Broadcasting Company.

Lance Reiss - Senior Vice President, FX Marketing

Reiss most recently served as Vice President of Marketing & Advertising for FX where he worked on critically and commercially successful roster of FX networks’ hit series, including Sons of Anarchy, American Horror Story, Fargo,It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Louie, Archer, The Americans and the upcoming, The Bastard Executioner.

In the new role, Lance will oversee advertising, media planning and buying, vendor negotiations, content distribution, finance and budgetary items and continued involvement with all consumer marketing initiatives.  Lance will focus on network launch campaigns and media strategy with a focus on off-air extensions that drive ratings for the FX Networks Suite. 

Lance will continue to lead the day to day business with the media agencies and continue to serve a key role with network distribution marketing team.  Lance also served as a key executive on the FXX launch team and continues to have oversight on FX, FXX, FXM and FX Now initiatives.

Living and breathing FX for 13 years and counting, Lance served his first two years as Manager Affiliate Marketing for FX working on marketing efforts tied to carriage and distribution.  Prior to coming to 21st Century Fox, Lance worked at DIRECTV in the marketing department.

Lance has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a multiple CTAM and PromaxBDA Gold winner.
