'Noticiero Telemundo' to Air First-Ever National Newscast Shot on Mobile Devices

MIAMI – Noticias Telemundo announced today that its award-winning national newscast, “Noticiero Telemundo,” will air a special “Digital Day” edition shot on mobile devices on Monday, July 6 at 6:30 PM/5:30 C. This will mark the first-time on record that a national network produces and airs a newscast shot on mobile technology.

“We are changing the way news is made by embracing all aspects of digital technology,” said Luis Carlos Velez, Telemundo’s Executive Vice President of Network News. “Smartphones and tablets have become increasingly popular ways to get informed. We want to maximize their utilization by adding to our groundbreaking storytelling.”

Journalists reporting for the “Digital Day” special edition of “Noticiero Telemundo” will be equipped with smartphones and tablets to capture and feed their stories. The special edition of “Noticiero Telemundo” will be streamed on Periscope under the Noticiero Telemundo account, including behind the scene shots from anchors and reporters during news breaks. Social media users can also follow the action under the hashtag #NoticieroDigital and the @TelemundoNews account on Twitter, visiting “Noticiero Telemundo” on Facebook, and going to TelemundoNews on Instagram.

“Noticiero Telemundo” recently launched two segments produced with mobile technology: “The Selfie Interview,” a news entertainment segment in which the interviewed asks and responds his own questions and “Mi Lente,” a story fully recorded with portable cameras to profile compelling characters in their own environments. 

Mobile technology offers more flexibility to reporters than traditional equipment and the quality of their news storytelling is deepened by the interactive and personal style users associate with mobile communications.
