Exton, PA—Chris Bastian, senior vice president and CTO of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and its global arm, the International Society of Broadband Experts (ISBE), will be a featured speaker at an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) wireless event next Monday, Nov. 14, in New Brunswick, N.J.

Bastian, who had been executive director of Comcast’s Xfinity Wi-Fi network prior to joining SCTE/ISBE, will share insights on how wireless is fueling growth for current and new IoT services within the cable telecommunications industry.  Bastian will deliver a morning presentation and will participate on an afternoon panel entitled “In-Building Wireless Solutions—Opportunities and Challenges”as part of IEEE’s workshop on in-building wireless solutions.

“Maximizing capabilities within large public structures is an important component of cable’s big-picture opportunity—the leveraging of wireless technology to expand service horizons across every part of the cable footprint,” said Bastian.  “By engaging collaboratively with the wireless industry at large, we can accelerate the industry’s ability to deliver the products and services that will drive consumer adoption.”

In addition to his responsibility for the Xfinity Wi-Fi network, Bastian also held senior positions with the Network Engineering Group and the Technology and Product Group during his 10-year stint with Comcast.  Previously, he had held network operations and engineering positions with RCN and Comcast Cellular Communications, and he had spent 10 years in engineering and leadership capacities with the National Security Agency.

The In-Building Wireless Solutions event will cover use cases to enhance user experiences within venues such as stadiums, malls, airports, subway tunnels, hospitals and hotels. The conference will address the role of wireless technologies such as 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi, advanced DAS, small cells, indoor CPRI, Radio over Ethernet and others to augment coverage and capacity, as well as how the use of SDN/NFV can enable faster introduction of new services at lower deployment cost, allowing delivery of value-added services. The workshop will be conducted from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Rutgers University Inn and Conference Center. Details and registration are available at
