San Jose, Calif.--TiVo Inc., a leader in the advanced television entertainment market, takes a step back today to review the past year of securing important partnerships and launching industry-changing products before kicking off 2015 next week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV.
Business As Usual... Only Better!
In 2014 TiVo surpassed 5 million subscriptions and reported the highest net revenue in the history of the company. MSO revenue grew at a rate of approximately 40 percent year over year in the most recent quarter with 20 of the top 25 operators in the US leveraging various aspects of TiVo's advanced television experiences. The company celebrated a unique deal with Comcast including integration of Xfinity-on-Demand into the TiVo retail platform throughout all Comcast markets and to date, over 60 percent of cable subscribers in the UK have a full branded TiVo experience through TiVo's relationship with Virgin Media in the UK. In January, TiVo announced the acquisition of Digitalsmiths, one of the leading companies powering advanced television interfaces.
TiVo Celebrated More Content Partnerships Than Ever Before
In the past year, TiVo has introduced more content partners than ever before to give consumers a truly all-in-one solution on top of the world's best DVR. TiVo added VUDU and Amazon Prime Instant Video, to an already robust content proposition for its retail experience and further strategic partnerships in its television service provider channel with Armstrong, Entouch, Vyve Broadband and WaveDivision Holdings have established TiVo as the leading advanced television solution among mid-tier domestic operators.
Leading on OTT Integration Innovation
As 2014 began, TiVo's Virgin Media platform represented the only integration of Netflix into an operator's set top box in the world. Throughout the year, TiVo added 11 additional domestic and international integrations to this unprecedented offering.
TiVo Tops TV Watching Marathon World Record
After setting an audacious Guinness World Record for longest TV binging marathon, TiVo continued to set the standard for records and awards in the entertainment industry. The company was awarded their fifth and sixth Emmy, adding two for "Innovation in Advanced Television Services." The TiVo app was also honored by the Appy Awards.
TiVo Covered Every Viewer in 2014 - Including Cord-Cutters
On the heels of launching the TiVo® Roamio™ DVR last year, TiVo broke the mold in 2014 with new product offerings including TiVo Roamio OTA and TiVo Mega. TiVo unveiled the TiVo Roamio OTA DVR earlier this year for those who do not have cable or satellite service, yet still want a DVR and an entertainment streaming solution. Separately, TiVo announced the upcoming TiVo Mega, the largest consumer DVR experience ever offered, boasting 24 terabytes of recording space -- the equivalent of over 26,000 hours of TV. TiVo also demonstrated for television service provider customers the TiVo nDVR, which creates a natural extension of the TiVo Service and consistent user experience on every device while enabling consumers to easily find, consume and socially share cloud delivered content -- a critical offering for operators as they consider a transition to IP delivered content and utilization of low-cost IP clients.
Data is King - TiVo Provided Insight Into Emerging Markets and Trends
TiVo Research and Analytics continues to be an important industry provider of cross media analytics and matching purchase data via revolutionary ad targeting and measurement products. TiVo Research drove industry insights into major viewing trends this year, including revealing large increases in commercial viewership not captured in the current C3 metric and for which TV networks are currently not compensated as well as finding up to $88 million in lost network ad revenue on just 10 broadcast network shows alone, among other findings. In the TiVo Spring 2014 Binge-Viewing Survey, TiVo found nearly 29 percent of respondents deliberately put off watching an entire season of a show until they could watch the whole season at once -- a trend TiVo expects will only grow. TiVo continues to reveal significant findings related to second-screen viewing, viewing preferences of Millennials and promo conversion data.
The Many Faces of TiVo
This year TiVo appointed industry veteran Ira Bahr as Chief Marketing Office to support the company's strategic marketing efforts. Senior VP, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary & Chief Privacy Officer Matt Zinn was awarded Silicon Valley Business Journal's 2014 Best Bay Area Corporate Counsel 'Judge's Choice' Award in March. Tara Maitra, Senior VP, and GM of TiVo's Content and Media sales, was honored as a member of the 2014 class of "Wonder Women" in the cable industry by Multichannel News.
