Univision Deportes Adds More World Cup Qualifier Matches, Including Newly Acquired UEFA and CONCACAF


MIAMI – SEPTEMBER 1, 2016 – Univision Deportes, the multimedia sports division of Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) that includes UDN, the No. 1 Spanish-language cable sports network, announced its schedule for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualification window the week of September 5. The line-up includes the U.S., Mexico and Canada National teams, as well as the debut of UEFA National Team qualifying matches on UCI networks.

The schedule is as follows:

  •          On Monday, September 5 (2:00 p.m. ET/UDN and UniMás) European power team Spain faces Liechtenstein in Round 1. Luis Omar Tapia, Xavier Sol, Hugo Salcedo and the newest member of the Univision Deportes team, world-wide renown soccer player, Iván Zamorano, will be providing commentary and analysis.
  •          On Tuesday, September 6:          France will play against Belarus also in Round 1 (2:00 p.m. ET/UDN). The sports casting team for Round 1 will include: Luis Omar Tapia, Iván Zamorano, Xavier Sol and Hugo Salcedo.          The excitement continues with qualifiers from the CONCACAF region. Pregame coverage begins at 7:00 p.m. ET on Fútbol Central as the team gets ready for the triple header coverage, live on-site from Jacksonville, Vancouver and Mexico City.          USA takes on Trinidad & Tobago (8:15 p.m. ET/UniMás). Providing expert analysis for the match will be: Raúl Guzmán, Diego Balado, Marcelo Balboa and Ramsés Sandoval will be reporting. All will be live on site in Jacksonville.          Right after that game, El Salvador competes against Canada (10:00 p.m. ET/UniMás). Pablo Ramírez and Félix Fernández will be providing analysis on the Canada-El Salvador match. Live coverage from Vancouver will be provided by field reporter Ana Caty Hernández.          The same evening, Mexico will host Honduras at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City (10:00 p.m. ET/UDN and Univision). The sports casting team for the Mexico-Honduras match will include Enrique Bermúdez and José Luis López Salido announcing the play by play, and former Mexican National team players Gonzalo Pineda and Enrique Borja providing commentary. Coverage will be live on-site pre, post and in-game.

Univision Deportes’ FIFA World Cup Qualifier coverage will continue in October and November as CONCACAF and UEFA teams continue to compete to secure a spot in the 2018 competition.
