VUBIQUITY, the leading global provider of premium content services, has signed a deal with DCD Rights to bring award-winning Australian drama series The Code to the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Europe, including first-run rights for Season 2 in Israel.

The deal is the latest in a string of high-profile global licensing deals for critically acclaimed content signed by VUBIQUITY, often on a first-run or exclusive basis. It demonstrates VUBIQUITY’s continued success is securing top-quality content as a video-on-demand (VOD) provider

Produced by Playmaker Media and ABC, The Code follows two brothers as they seek to uncover the truth behind a remote car crash that killed two Aboriginal teenagers. Their research takes them to the very heart of the Australian government, as they are confronted by the role played by a secret research project. The critically acclaimed show was nominated for 2 Logie awards and won 6 AACTA awards, including for Best Television Drama Series.

Season 1 of The Code will be available on SVOD services in countries covered by the deal from August this year. Season 2 will be available in Israel on a first-run basis from November this year, and then in other countries from November 2017. The deal also provides VUBIQUITY with a first refusal option to license any subsequent seasons, if produced.

It also follows a successful deal between VUBIQUITY and DCD Rights to distribute Australian dramas Rake and The Slap in June last year.

The full list of countries covered by the deal: UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan,  Morocco, South Africa, Nigeria, Zambia, Uganda, Swaziland, Ghana, Cyprus, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe, DRC, Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Botswana, Lesotho, Seychelles, Israel, Greece, Malta, Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, and Moldova.

Marco Nadotti, SVP Content at VUBIQUITY International, said: "We're proud to bring this award-winning show to our affiliates. The Code is a gripping drama and a prime example of the type of TV that people want to watch.

"With the rise of streaming services, people now have more choice than ever about where to watch their favourite television series. The entertainment marketplace is increasingly competitive, and high-quality programming is the differentiator for distributors in the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Europe.

"Through multi-territory deals like this, we are providing our affiliates with truly world-class content, often on a first-run basis, to compete in this rapid video-growth environment.”

Nicky Davies Williams, CEO at DCD Rights, added: “We’re delighted to sign this new deal with VUBIQUITY for The Code, following their great success with The Slap and Rake. With its strong production values, star-studded cast and thrilling storyline, The Code is a fantastic example of an Australian-produced drama that has gone from strength-to-strength on the international stage.”
