ATLANTA-- The Weather Channel television network announced today the start of “Hurricane Week,” a seven day slate of programming designed to raise awareness about weather’s most dangerous season.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 22 and running through Sunday, Aug. 28, the network will air segments throughout live programming featuring The Weather Channel’s unrivaled team of experts. These segments will cover a wide array of hurricane topics including how to prepare for a hurricane and what to do if caught in the storm. In addition, the network will run a slate of hurricane themed original programming showcasing the science behind the storms as well as the aftermath often left in their wakes.

“Hurricane Week” will culminate with the debut of “Hurricanes: Inside the Eye,” a new special that explores these tropical monsters and what makes them so dangerous. Using high tech animations and augmented reality, experts will dissect some of the scariest aspects of these storms.

"As evidence by the terrible flooding in Louisiana, when other national news outlets missed the warning signs, only The Weather Channel went where America needed us,” said David Clark, president of The Weather Channel television network. "As we enter the height of hurricane season, we will continue our responsibility as a service network to keep audiences informed and aware, so they can stay ahead of the next big storm."
