Los Angeles–Continuing WGN America’s fourth-quarter 2016 ratings momentum, in January 2017, the network posted its best monthly performance in nearly four years, since March 2012, rising an impressive +20% in prime versus a year ago among Adults 25-54 (119K vs. 99K). WGN America also posted the #5 highest gain in January 2017, while ad-supported general entertainment cable networks were down by a combined -6% in prime.
The network’s January success, comes on the heels of ratings milestones set in 2016. WGN America’s audienceincreased +16% among Total Viewers and +14% among Adults 25-54 year-over-year. This marked the best performance for the network, since launching its original programming strategy.
In addition to its strong year-over-year performance and outstanding gains in January 2017, WGN America ended the year with robust double-digit growth in Q4 2016, expanding its audience by +20% among Adults 25-54 and +32% in Adults 18-49 in prime (Live + 3).
The network’s hit series “Outsiders” returned for its second season on January 24 and drew2.5 million Total Viewers in Live + 3 delivery on premiere night, +12% above “Outsiders’” season one average in Total Viewers and + 10% in Adults 25-54. The 9 p.m. ET/PT telecast represented a +622% increase over the network’s Adults 25-54 time period season-to-date average and +405% among Total Viewers in Live + 3 viewing.
Season two of WGN America’s smash series “Underground,” which averaged 3 million Total Viewers in Live + 3 delivery in season one, returns Wednesday, March 8 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
